A duplex ground floor has to do many jobs at once. It must provide parking, daily living space, kitchen access, bedroom comfort, staircase movement and proper ventilation within a limited footprint.
The Pallavaram ground floor plan shows parking at the front, a living and dining area near the entry, kitchen to one side, staircase in the central zone and two bedrooms toward the rear. The plan also uses a small ventilation shaft between the toilets.
Parking should not disturb the house entry
In compact houses, parking often occupies the front portion. The entry has to remain clear so the family does not feel like they are walking through a vehicle bay every time.
- Keep entry width comfortable.
- Avoid blocking the main door with parking movement.
- Plan drainage and floor slope for the parking bay.
Staircase placement affects both floors
The staircase is not only a ground-floor feature. Its position decides how the first floor will connect, how much light reaches the centre and how easily the plan can grow vertically.
- Check stair headroom.
- Keep landing movement clear.
- Coordinate stair position with upper-floor rooms.
Small ventilation shafts are valuable
The visible vent between the toilet blocks is a practical move. It helps bring air and light to service spaces that may otherwise become closed and damp.
- Keep shaft dimensions buildable.
- Coordinate plumbing walls.
- Avoid closing the shaft during execution.
A good compact duplex plan is not about filling every corner. It is about making each corner useful without making daily movement uncomfortable.
